Canada Family Class Visa

How Global Visas Can Help

As a Canadian immigration consultancy Global Visas can help you to assess whether or not you qualify under this route.
If you choose to relocate to Canada, immigration consultants at Global Visas can offer a complete package of guidance and services throughout the process.
Global Visas provide much more than simply a Canadian visa service as they take care of everything you will need for your move to Canada from immigration lawyer expertise, detailed information on the processes of immigration and more.
To apply for a Canadian visa for immigration of this kind the sponsoring permanent residency holder or Canadian citizen must be over eighteen years of age.
They must also be currently living in Canada and willing to sponsor the family member for a period of between 3 and 10 years, allowing them to establish themselves in the country.
After three years in the country permanent residents may apply for Canadian citizenship themselves.

Benefits

Relocating to Canada via an application for a family visa allows relatives to seek employment without any restriction.
Unlike a Canadian work permit application, no specific offer of employment is required by the Canada immigration service for an immigrant to begin working. In addition, whilst business visas impose points based assessments upon applicants, Canadian family visas do not.
Canadian visas of this class mean that the need for work permits is bypassed and that candidates, once accepted, may work freely upon arrival.
This type of Canadian visa service allows for spouse immigration and fiancé immigration as well as permitting your common law or conjugal partner to join you.
It also offers a route to Canadian immigration for:
  • Dependent children, including adopted children.
  • Children less than 18 years of age who you intend to adopt.
  • A bother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchildren who are orphans, under the age of 18 and who are not married or in a common law relationship.
  • Parents or grandparents.
  • Relatives of any age providing that you do not already have an aunt, uncle or family member featured on the list above who you could sponsor or who is already a Canadian citizen, Indian or permanent resident.

For this route to immigration, dependant children are defined as:

  • Under 22 and without a spouse or common law partner
  • A full-time student (studies must have begun before the age of 22) and dependent on a parent for financial support.
  • Financially dependent on a parent since before the age of 22 due to a disability.
The Canada immigration service will also allow you to sponsor your spouse or common law partner if they already live and work in Canada with you. Sponsorship in this case includes their dependant children whether they are currently within or outside the country.

Eligibility Criteria

Applying for a Canadian visa of this class requires that sponsorship and immigration to Canada applications are submitted before the relative has moved to Canada.
As a sponsor you may be expected to meet some income requirements. In addition if you have previously agreed to sponsor a relative seeking permanent residence in Canada for a period of time who later received social assistance, you may not be permitted to sponsor relatives in the future.
In all provinces, except Quebec, the procedure entails the sponsor signing an undertaking with the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. Both the sponsor and the sponsored relative will also be required to sign a sponsorship agreement.
In Quebec this agreement will be signed with the province of Quebec. This province also contributes an extra level of assessment to the process of deciding whether or not its residents are eligible to sponsor a relative.

Sponsorship Agreement

A sponsorship agreement outlines the obligations of both the sponsor and the relative who is migrating to Canada. The former must agree to support the latter for the agreed period of time thus ensuring that they do not need to receive social assistance.
The person being sponsored must undertake to make certain that they become self supporting, except in cases where the relative is elderly.

Canadian Immigration Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following points requirements to qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker program.
Work Experience
To satisfy the point requirements you must have at least one year of full-time paid work experience in fields that satisfy Canadian immigration standards such as managerial jobs, professional occupations, or technical / skilled trades.
For more information about the jobs and occupations that Canadian immigration considers valid, visit the National Occupational Classification website: www23.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/2001/e/generic/welcome.shtml.
Education
The main applicant will likely need at least some completed post-secondary education.  Of course, up to a point, the more education an applicant has the better that person’s chances become.  Education is a very important aspect of the evaluation process .

Language Abilities
Language is also very important.   English and French are the two languages that count for points in the Canadian immigration requirements.  Of course, to be fluent in both provides more points to any applicant, but fluency in one of these two languages will increase any applicant’s chances significantly.
Age
10 points are awarded to applicants between 21 and 49 years of age.  2 points are removed for every year older or younger (to a maximum of 10 points).

Arranged Employment
With a permanent job offer from a Canadian employer, applicants may be awarded an additional 10 points.

Adaptability
The Canadian government also takes adaptability into account when evaluating any applicant.  The adaptability category addresses a potential applicant’s perceived ability to adapt quickly to life in Canada.  The Canadian Government will award any applicant who has relatives in Canada or has spent time in Canada working or studying.
Point Structure
This is the point breakdown for the Canadian Immigration Requirements for Federal Skilled Worker.
  • Work Experience: Maximum 21 Points
  • Education: Maximum 25 Points
  • Language: Maximum 24 Points
  • Arranged Employment: Maximum 10 Points

CANADA

Applying for a UK visa in Canada

This page explains how you can apply for a visa to come to the UK if you are currently in Canada.
If you currently have temporary permission to stay in Canada (for example, as a student or a visitor), you can only apply for some types of UK visa - see 'More information' below.

When to apply

You can apply for a visa up to 3 months before your date of travel to the UK. We strongly advise you not to confirm your travel arrangements until you have received your visa. To find out how long we usually take to process your type of visa, see the Visa processing times page.

Before you apply

Before you apply, you must:
  • prepare the supporting documents that you will need;
  • be ready to enrol your fingerprints and photograph (known as biometric information) at one of our visa application centres in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver or Edmonton or at one of our mobile biometric clinics in St John's or Halifax;
  • be able to pay the visa application fee - the Visa application fees and guides page lists the application fees for different types of visa.
If you do not know which supporting documents to provide, the Visa application fees and guides page will help you to find guidance for your visa category.

If you are applying for any other type of visa, you should provide documents that:
  • support the statements that you make in your visa application; and
  • show that the information in your application is true.
We will only consider documents submitted with your application. You cannot submit documents after you have completed your application at the visa application centre, unless our staff ask you for them.

  • Dependent children, including adopted children.
  • Children less than 18 years of age whom you intend to adopt.

In Quebec this agreement will be signed with the province rather than the Minister. Itl also requires an extra level of assessment to decide whether or not residents are eligible to sponsor a relative.

Eligibility Criteria for Canada Investor Visa

In Canada, immigration applications under the investor programme require applicants to demonstrate at least two years of managerial experience. In addition, candidates must be able to demonstrate a minimum net worth of CDN$1.6 million. They must then invest CDN$800,000 with the Canadian Government for five years (all of which will then be returned) OR make a one-off, non-refundable payment of aproximately CDN$120,000.
Migration visas of this kind focus on attracting immigrants who will invest in the Canadian economy, without necessarily starting a business.
Candidates considering this type of Canada visa application may only apply for one business immigration service. Once an application has been submitted, switching to another route is not permitted.

Unmarried dependent children under the age of 22 may also join you. Find out further information on our Self Employed page.
