How to Become a Canadian Citizen
Applying for Canadian citizenship is
a long process requiring many layers of paper work and a written and
oral test. In general, permanent Canada immigration and
citizenship is open to those who are 18 and above, already have
permanent resident status and have lived in the country for over three
years. In addition, you must not have committed a crime in the three
years since your residence application or have had your citizenship for
Canada taken away in the last five years. If you are under 18, you can apply for
Canada citizenship and immigration if one of your parents or (adoptive
or not) is a Canadian citizen. You do not need to have lived in the
country for three years. Take the free assessment to find out if you
qualify.
Canadian Citizenship Test
Once the first part of your
application has been accepted, you must then undertake a Canada
citizenship test. The test is done through written work and interviews
and will assess your knowledge of Canada’s laws, history, values and
institutions and your ability to speak one of the country’s two official
languages: English and French. Find out the full requirements by taking
the free assessment below.
