Canada Family Visa

Living with Your Relative in Canada

There are no more important things in life than our family. Being separated from either is heart-breaking and we will do all that we can to be with them again. This is why the Canadian government allow their citizens to sponsor relatives from outside of the country to come and live with their family, in the form of Other Eligible Relative Visas.
IXP’s team of immigration lawyers and employment experts help tens of thousands of people every year. Our expertise is invaluable to our clients who want to immigrate and find work all around the world.  As we are fully-accredited by government bodies worldwide, our clients know that they can trust us to get the very best results.

Summary

Other Eligible Relative Visas are conditional two-year residencies that allow our clients to live and work in Canada. These visas can lead to full Canadian citizenship after three years and do not require a job offer to be approved.
Both the sponsor and the nominee must sign a sponsorship agreement which outlines the commitments that both parties must make. Most of these criteria are detailed below but mostly rest on financial considerations.

Nominees

These visas are for relatives of Canadian citizens who are under the age of 18 and not married. For your case to be approved, you will have to provide documentary evidence that you are related to the sponsor.
If you are a relative over the age of 18, you will not normally be eligible to be sponsored under this scheme, but you may gain extra points under other visas for having a Canadian relative. If your sponsor does not have any relatives who would be eligible (ie under 18) then an older relative may be considered.
The Canadian government will need evidence in the form of a medical that you are in good health. Also, you will be required to supply a police report showing that you have no criminal record.

Sponsors

A sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident over the age of eighteen. They must be able to prove that they are financially able to support their nominee when they arrive in the country- this usually means having a steady job with savings in their bank account.
If you are currently a Canadian citizen living outside of Canada but plan to return if your nominee’s case is accepted, then you are allowed to make an application.

IXP Case Study

Life is full of difficult decisions and sometimes we have to put long-term aspirations first. Our client Mohammed had to make such a decision so that his son could benefit:
“My son was clearly a bright boy from a young age. He always got good grades in school and his determination showed from an early age. I was worried that my wife and I simply wouldn’t be able to provide the kind of future that he needed with us. I spoke to my brother, who lives in Canada, and he suggested that my son went to live with him instead. Of course, it was a difficult decision but my consultant at IXP helped me with all of the difficult paperwork. I know that we miss each other but I am so proud that he is making a better life for himself in Canada. In the future, I hope to use IXP Visas to find myself work there so that I can be with my family.”
