Canada Construction Jobs

The term construction covers a multitude of professions including builders, kitchen fitters, electricians and welding jobs in Canada. For most of these types of professions, work visas are only granted after an offer of employment in the country from an employer who has proved to the Canadian labour ministry that they cannot source these skills locally. The applicant then needs to apply for their work visa separately.

Federal Skilled Workers

Visas are given without an offer of employment, however, for 29 professions under the Federal Skilled Worker scheme. Many of these include construction positions such as electrician jobs in Canada, oil and gas jobs in Canada, contractors and carpenters. To be eligible the applicant must have the appropriate qualifications and at least one year’s paid experience in the last 10 years.
Federal Skilled Worker visas, however, are subject to caps and only 20,000 applications are processed each year, with a maximum of 1000 applications for each profession. Popular professions such as oil jobs in Canada often have a waiting list so it is some times more effective to secure a job before you apply for a visa and bypass the scheme altogether.
